Project - No 06

Collection and delivering of home used commodities for needy children.

Tangalle Children Relay (TCR) is becoming more popular among the community at Tangalle. Our team is taking another big step to initiate this NEW PROJECT.

With our past experiences of village people, we have noted that there are several basic needs are missing in many families. Mainly those children, who attend our Kindergarten.

For example…!

  • Food
  • Clothes and shoes
  • Sanitary ware
  • Study Material
  • Furniture
  • Kitchen equipment
  • Toys

In the meantime we have also noted that there are some other families, who has over consumption and many used items are stored in cupboards or racks, but never utilizing them.

Our Goal is to meet these families to explain them the need of other families

For the last two weeks, we have launched our first trial by visiting 20 families and we received a fantastic respond from many of them. By end of March 2008, we could collect several bags of used clothes and shoes. Many of them are children dresses. Our Kindergarten teachers voluntarily offered to work extra for this Project.

First lady to bring the clothes to us

Also toys, bags and shoes were there.

This exercise has encouraged us and gave us energy in several degrees to go further to meet other people to pass our massage.
By now, we have able to collect some clothes and we will arrange to delever them soon before the New Year.

Here the teachers are cheking and sorting the collection for the best suitable families.

If we were able to collect a good some of commodities, we will work to select the mostly needs families to handover the commodities that we collected.

Sri Lanka is celebrating its major National new year festival at 12th and 13th of April. So our effort is to arrange this before the New Year to give some clothes for these children.

We do believe that this project can go further up to furniture and many other items to be collected.

Let’s hope, TCR can do more in this regards.

This project will be discussed in more details by next meeting with the TCR members on 5th Saturday April at Tangalle.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Mahendra.

Manager of Tangalle Children Relay.
