Project No 04

Tangalle Children Relay has operated it's second kindergarten at Marakolliya Tsunami housing cheme for the year 2007 successfuly.
There were 8 kids with us and 5 kids are admitted to school by January 2008. 
Sanda and Asha did a great job by preparing these most needy kids to start their first school with limited facilities. As this small village was seperated or ignored by the government and many other NOGs that were operating in Sri Lnaka, the services TCR provided them was in excellent condition.

Kids and parents were provided with traditional Milk rice and Banana as to  teach the kids the traditional customs.


Everything begins after pray of religion. The kids offer fresh flower and light an oil lamp for Buddha.




This little girl was crying laud for her mother. Not yet used to be with new friends and teachers.

These kids were so shy to dance or sing at the very first days




Slowly, the are learning how to move with the rythem of the songs.



They all are learning very fast.



A very sensible moment that This lady tries to hug this little child.

But gradualy, the teaches were ablet o bring them to a possition that they laugh and sing with the teachers. They have now forgotten their mother for a while.

The kids learnt very fast. Their progress made everyone serprised.

   After two years completion of last Tsunami at Tangalle, December 2004, there are still many structures left incomplete or neglected. Many social welfare projects already left the country leaving their targets        

unachieved.

As an example, the housing scheme at Marakolliya (3 km east of Tangalle, along Tissa road) for the tsunami affected people at Tangalle (Madaketiya region), which contains about 60 houses ( I would not mention the name of the foreign association as a legal matter) is totally ignored after employing the community. There is no water or electricity provided to the new homes. Also many infrastructure needs to be seen. As the foreign organization left the place, there is no responsible authority to manage the project.

As we observed the place, we could see a small room which has built to use as a kindergarten, but not in action, though there are parents looking for kindergarten facility for their kids. The room is equipped with chairs, desks and a black board. The space is for about 20 children. (In Srilanken standard) At the other end of the garden, there were some abandoned child playing instruments. Scarcely used by children

Mission:

Tangalle children relay, as a community based helping project with 02 years experience, we took steps to run this new project without leaving the needy kinds in the region helpless. We have already planned to open the kindergarten at the beginning of February 2007. For the moment we have selected 09 kids, but awaiting more in the future as to suite our budget. (Up to 15 children – best suite for two teachers to extra attention on each child)

Location:

Five km away from Tangalle along tissa road, and turn left to countryside and proceed 200 m , then one can arrive the housing scheme.

 

Terms:

Original ownership:

On behalf of foreign association, the local agent Mr. Bhathiya wedaarachchi will sign a document to grant us the authority of the house and property for a period of 05 years commencing on January 2007.

Condition of the house:

It is a permanent house built with clay and cement. The roof is tiled and permanent. The doors and windows are permanent and able to lock. Ground is cement and also a small bathroom is is reserved. (Incomplete)
