Own house is a dream of every one in this world.
![]() Project summary for new house project for TCR
Tangalle Children Relay (TCR) started its projects to serve the needed community around Tangalle since 2006. But it did not have its own house to function its projects. Therefore TCR needed to rent different houses to function its various projects such as two youth hostels, Library project, fruit restaurant ect. In average, TCR has spent over two million LKR in order to pay for house rentals within the last six years. At the moment the houses at Tangalle are getting expensive and one needs to pay a large amount to get s house for rented.
By taking this to considerations, TCR has geared up its idea of building its own house, which was waiting for long time. The challenge was to buy a property near Tangalle and to build a house that makes room for several projects. A land near the town is pretty expensive and the house construction was as expensive as that. For this project, TCR needed to reserve lot of money, which it never possible was.
But to our surprise, we met a generous woman who has no children or relations, but had some properties and income to mind her life. One of her empty lands located near Tangalle town was left alone for several years. As TCR had a close relationship with her, she agreed to grant us her above mentioned property (The empty land) with a leasing agreement of 30 years to build a permanent house to operate projects of TCR. The only condition she applied was that she needs her property back after 30 years in case she was alive and needed support to manage her life. The main reason behind this offer was that she likes our projects very much that TCR supports the needy community indeed and our faithfulness shown during the project period.
This opportunity was a huge step forward to go to our main goal of having our own house for TCR. As the main problem of finding a land was solved our second step is to collect funds to build the house.
By the end of 2010, TCR has a reserved fund of 1,037,500 LKR for a project to build a house. Main part of this money was from a lady from France Miss. Stephanie, who liked to help TCR for its sustainability and this money is received by January 2010. It is already a long period and TCR cannot more wait to build our dream house. After calling for the general annual meeting for TCR last January, it was decided and approved to find ways to start the constructions for a new house.
By May 2011, TCR has committed if full strength to launch this project. As a result of that, following achievements are made and are on process.
1. Ground floor – This is mainly for an income generating project to make TCR charity projects sustainable in the future. The size will be around 21m x 09m (190 sqm). The predicted project is to use the space for tuition classes in small groups and that has a big demand at Tangalle.
2. First floor – The main hall will be mainly for the library project and there will be 3 to 4 bed rooms to sell for women or girls, who want to spend a night at Tangalle. It will be just like a women hostel and the rooms are only for women. With the sri lankan culture, it is still a problem for a woman / girl or group of them to spend a night in a holiday home or a tourist hotel. Therefore if there is a safe and unique place available, it will be a large advantage for needy ones. TCR will also make some money by providing this service.
3. Second floor – This will be mainly for hostel project for girl students and their will be six to eight rooms, a study hall, kitchen and a office room included. The house will provide accommodation around 30 students at a time.
The basic documentary work is on process and the project report is in process that makes complete description plus budget. Until this document is prepared, TCR would like to present this document for your overview of our new project. |
