Home status:
01 year ago they were living in a small hut that surrounded by coconut leaves. Then a Social working organization called “Nawajeewana” has built a small house with two rooms for this family. But the house is unfortunately not finished. Only the roof and the walls are done. Then they have stopped the construction of the house and the family had to occupy the house as it is. The doors and windows are not fixed. The floor is not done. Walls are row and not done and painted.

Their unfinished house

Other details:
This family had eight children. But one of them was dead, because the child suffered from fever. Parents had not enough knowledge or ability to get that child cured. Also were not able to pay for that.
The special reason why this family should be helped:
They have got disable daughter of 9 years. She can’t speak clearly. She is studying at disable school at Tangalle. But she doesn’t go to school everyday, because the mother is too busy with other children that no one is to take her to the school. Especially mother has to take care of other tow young kids. One is a kid of Tangalle children relay Kindergarten. By the time we met this family, this child did not attend the disabled school. So we advised and encouraged the parents to send this child regularly to the school. Now this child attends her school more often.
Both parents are not educated and therefore they did not have any family planning system to corolla the children. Now it has become a huge weight for this young father to maintain this family with his small and irregular income. Around 32.00 euros a month.
General life style of this family.
They have a water supply to the house. It is a tap fixed outside the house. No bathroom. But they don’t have electricity. No bed to sleep, no table to put their book, no rack to put their clothes. They put their clothes on the box made by cardboard. They have only four plastic chairs and two ruined mats. Those are the only furniture in this family. The other steel cupboard that they had to put their clothes and other materials was sold recently in order to buy some essential medicine for one of the child. The house is not equipped with any glass or plate to treat a guest. It is like a open house or bus halt. They are unable to buy some clothes for their children even once a year.

Out side washing area.

Older children always cry for new clothes and the younger ones need good food and toys. Basically the whole family is not having any nutritious food or medicine for their health. Some times they fill their stomach once a day. TCR always help them. We collected some food and clothes for this family.
Hasindu is at our pre school. So we try to give good meal for him everyday. It has become a good support for this family to send him to our preschool.
Always these children are sick. But they have no money to get some medicine. They go to the government hospital to get medicine free of charge.
In this house, the electrical wiring system is done. The bulb holders are hanging on the roof, waiting to give light for this family since two year. No doors or windows for this house.

Bulb holders and plug tops are waiting to give light for this family

This is how they store their things. The rough floor is the only place for the kids to do their home work.

The kitchen is only these empty pots.

What they want now:
This family has seven children. Four children go to school. Mother is house wife. So she couldn’t do a job, because she should look after her children. Their monthly budget is as follow.

INDIVIDUAL FAMILY HELPS – 2008

Ranjith family 2008 March.

Updates 02.

  • TCR is very pleased to inform all of you that Mr.  & Mrs. South from Great Britain has offered more helps for this family. TCR is finding meaningful ways to spend this money more useful for this family.
As first point, TCR has focused on the children’s Nutrition, Health and Education. A week ago, TCR found out that the water line is disconnected as the due bills amount increased over 6500.00 Rs. They have paid only one bill for the last 18 months.
As we understand the water is the most important, we will immediately act to get the water service back. This is on process.
  • The elder boy Imalsha, who got seriously injured, is now recovering fast. But since the day he injured, he has not attended school. It is already more than two months that he missed his new class. He supposed to be at Grade 05.
TCR immediately arranged to buy the needful for him to be able to attend school. So last Monday he went to school first time for this year, but the school principle did not want to put him in his new class, as he has already missed several lessons. So poor Imalsha had to study in the same class (Grade 4) as last year. But TCR hopes that it is good that he can start well.
  • In the meantime, TCR has advised Ganga (the Mother) to prepare her garden for growing vegetable. In the course of time, TCR will guide her to make a good vegetable garden that supplies vegetable for the family.

Imalsha wearing a new pair of shoes.

He got new books and pens for his new class.

He was a bit nervous to have all these new!!

He with his mother at Shoe center.

TCR thoroughly advised Mother to make sure that every child goes to school every day. She has to inform us in advice, if some thins is missing.

TCR is always after this family.

Thank you.

Yours TCR team.

Ranjith family updates April 2008

Helping the family find their own income

As TCR further investigated the situation of family Ranjith, it was revealed that Ranjith is not good at fishing and therefore not many people wants to give him a job. This has affected the moral of Ranjith very badly. He is really disappointed, so he has no more courage to go for fishing again.

When we inquired him about his other skills or talents, (Actually this person can only write his name “Signature” and otherwise he has not had any school or numeric education.) he proposed us that he would like to sell fish bi a bicycle around the villages. So we asked if he is good at numbers and figures, especially counting money. Then he confirmed that he can manage. We also advised his wife to pay more attention with money as she has a better knowledge.

“As TCR always believe in helping a family is not just to feed the family but help them to find their own income by working hard”

According to this concept, all our directors + members agreed to help this family to start this selling fish. As initial requirement, following needs are to be considered.

  • Bicycle (Reconditioned)
  • Large wooden box
  • A Scale
  • 2 Knives
  • Some cash in hand
So TCR decided to give 12,000 to this family to start this new business. TCR will be always behind this family to inspect all the movements.

Here is Ranjith with his used Bicycle with the box for selling fish.

He also needed a large scale for this purpose.
