Grameen Foundation launches a suite of mobile phone applications developed with Google and MTN Uganda (MTN) that deliver services and information that were previously unavailable to Uganda's poor and disadvantaged communities.
This is our very first project to be initiated in May 2006 with sixteen village girl students at No 280, Tissa Road Tangalle- Sri Lanka. For the last five years, although we did not meet our every goal in this project, we have many successful stories and events to be satisfied with our service to the needy rural village students at their high school studies. For an instant, the last year exam result showed up a very successful result by qualifying 3 girl students to the medical science universities. Other students too had good results. But as a result of our financial situation, which we did not meet the required target of the budget for 2011, we had to move from the existing house. There were several reasons behind that, but the main reason was that our budget unable to pay the house rental of the whole year in full. If we paid this money in full, we fear of not meeting our other needs by the time. Other reasons were that the house is little far away from the town to walk. It was little more than one kilometer. The other was that the house owner has had the idea of selling this house since several years and now he constantly talking about selling or increasing the house rental of 25% for 2011. The written agreement was also to be ended by the end of December 2010. Taking all those reasons to consideration, our association members decided to find a closer place that was possible to pay in monthly basis.
