OUR SWEET HOME
(TCR opened its second youth hostel)

All the family members are to be seeing here. It really makes a family of harmony.
(December 2008)

We are all together sixteen students. This has being our sweet home since 1st of May 2006. We all are studying at Tangalle aiming to study in a university. 05 of us already had our exam last August 2007. Non of them were able to get a better result to enter the university. 3 of us are back  to try our next chance in 2008. !! students had the exam in August 2008 and waiting to see their result at the end of December 2008. Icluding two previous students, there are 14 new comers. We all are from poor or with least facilitated families in countryside. So we enjoy our new home here a lot and would like to thank all of you, who are already helping us and who would like to help us in the future.
The nice and healthy food, comfortable beds, study friendly environment and the real care, which we apreciate verymuch in our home. Compare to our homes, this is a heaven for us. So we are fully dedicated to our education and one day we wish to bring a proud name to our home in the world.

UPDATE 31 / 08 / 2009
We have just finished our exam two days before. Some of us have done it better. But in average all of us are in better hopes to have a good result in this exam. So it is time to go home and say good bye to our beloved home "Tangalle Children Relay - Youth Hostel". Two of us have lived here for almost three years and the others are staying here since one year or so. Though we are glad to get our homes and to be with our parents and relations, it is a great sorry to leave this wonderful home and the loving care we all got. The life and the education we had at our youth hostel are invaluable for our lives. It is unforgettable.
We first of all want to thank our mother and guardiance of this home for their kind loving treatments while we were here. And also the foriegn sponsors for their kindest support to make this home functioning. That is a great service for the students like us from rural villages of Sri Lanka.
Thank you very much.
UPDATE 28 / 07/ 2009

Our exam is on 11th of August. There are only few days left. 15 students out of 16 get the exam this time. All are exited. The every second passes by give a high alert in each students mind. But we don’t worry as we always feel safe in this home at TCR. The magic power that we were given by our safe home is the only power that we can prepare for the exam. We feel good as we know our family members at home are doing well. Especially our parents do not have to worry much of our education expenses.

We do hope to do our best to bring a reputation to TCR name and with that our lives in the future will be safe.

At this point, we thank all the ladies and gentlemen, who have support functioning our home for the last 04 years. We understand that you all have dedicated your time and money to make the Tangalle Children Relay functioning well for last 4 years. And we do hope, though we are not more here at our home in Tangelle, the future students of in great need should have this great service too. Therefore we kindly request you to provide your support further to make this service successful for the next generation.

Thank you.

How can you take care one of these students?

A project that did not exist in the previous history:

It is like a girl's youth hostel. But more like a home for them. Most of their needs for a better study friendly surrounding are provided free of charge.(a comfortable bed, healthy food, tea, English lessons, Computer with Internet and so on...)
It mainly concern rural girl students, who travels

It mainly concern rural girl students, who travels 60 to 80 km per day (twice) or more, for there higher education, to Tangalle. These girls are basically from low income families and having difficulties to continue their education alone.

As we want some involvment from the families and the students, a small participation is requested (300.00 rs). This money is used for entertainment and it is not a must. But most of the parents pay that with pleasure.

The house was in bad condition at the time we rented and needed to be renovated.

FRONT WIEVE

KITCHEN

BATH ROOM

Basically with the support from the French Organization Le Relais Enfant, we were able to furnished the house to a home, where the students can live. There are 4 rooms for students, one for the two maids, 2 bathrooms with toilets, a furnished kitchen + dining room and a study + office room. There is also a small garden, where the preschool children could play.
In adition, a Tele Vision, Refrigerator and a telephone set are provided. An Internet connection was very important as to coordinate with our subsides and also for the usage of students.

Some more improvements are still on proccess.

Students are attending school and private lessons daily from the morning to evening. Right after they get back home, starts their home work. Some students continue their study as late as 2 o clock in the next morning. They simply get few sleep or rest. It is realy a hard work for them. They need lots of motivation and courage in order keep them fit and  healthy.

There was computer training for three month and English lesson given by a well trained lady teacher twice a week continually. By 2008, unfortunately we had to terminate this additional services as to our financial situation.

Once a month, and sometimes more, some picnic, visit temple or cinemas are organised. That will help them to balance their mentality and to avoid depresion.

Finding some individual sponsorship when they study in Uiniversities:

Most of the students are willing to go on their studies to university. We are creating some individual files, with their profile (name, family background, pictures, study interest, hobby...) and searching in Sri Lanka and abroad some kind hearted parents, who would like to sponsor on of their future studies in university.
